Belize - Heart of Darkness or Caribbean Paradise?

On the road to Caracol:
In AD 650, approximately 180,000 people* lived in this major Mayan settlement. Now because of the extremely rugged travel conditions, few people find their way to Caracol. This road-side shot give you some idea of how remore and rugged the land can be.

*Note: the current population of Belize--the entire country--is 250,000.
